Skincare from Within
Believe it or not, one of the best ways you can help look after your skin during the colder months is simply by making sure you stay hydrated with plenty of fluids. Upping your water intake is excellent. If plain water isn’t your thing, then try adding flavouring or switch to herbal teas. You want to try to avoid caffeine, as this can dry your skin from the inside. In addition, consuming foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids and high in antioxidants will help create healthy skin cells and protect them from environmental damage at the same time. Bonus!
Moisturise after Cleansing
A super easy solution to keeping your skin hydrated is to moisturise regularly, especially after washing and cleansing your skin. And that includes all parts of the body, so face, hands, arms, legs, and feet—every part of you is susceptible to dry skin! And don’t overuse harsh cleansing soaps that can have a drying effect.
Your aim is to lock in as much hydration as you possibly can by incorporating rich and occlusive lotions and balms into your routine that trap moisture in your skin. Aim for emollient, super-rich ingredients like shea butter, cocoa butter, glycerin, lanolin and essential oils such as rosehip oil and jojoba oil. It doesn’t matter what the season is; for your skin’s protection, you should religiously apply sunscreen to all of your exposed skin.
