In the Spotlight – Tea Tree Oil for the skin win
At Balmy Fox, we truly believe in the power of nature to help soothe skin complaints. Instead of relying on harsh, chemical ingredients and other ingredients with questionable provenance, we rely on nature. Often, the answer to skincare is staring us in the face just by taking a walk in nature. Ethics also plays an important role in our brand. We only ever use ingredients from sustainable sources; we pay a fair price to the farmers and producers and don’t use anything potentially harmful to the planet. And that includes plastic in our packaging. What’s the point of turning to nature to heal our skin woes caused by having an active, outdoor lifestyle, if we just ruin nature with our products and packaging?
Tea Tree Skincare - OIl with the Power to Heal!
One such ingredient that we knew had to feature in our products was tea tree oil. Tea tree oil, also known as melaleuca oil, is extracted as a pure essential oil from the leaves of the Melaleuca alternifolia tree which is native to Australia. More specifically, this tree’s natural habitat is south-east Queensland and the northeast coast of New South Wales.
Traditionally used by Aborigines for its skin healing powers, tea tree is now famed throughout the world. It’s particularly useful for skin conditions that have become inflamed, infected or itchy.
Being a keen outdoor runner, rider, surfer or climber sure is fun. But our skin can suffer. Blisters, cuts, bruises, wind burn, sun burn, insect bites, irritations and itching are all common among people keen on outdoor pursuits.
Often, skin complaints, especially ones with broken skin, can be made worse by infections. Unfortunately, doing the things we love best, such as trail running and surfing, can expose us to environmental bacteria and fungi from the soil or water, just waiting to find a weeping sore or cut to infect.
Which is why we naturally turned to Tea Tree oil. It contains a compound called Terpinen-4-ol, an effective and natural antibacterial and antifungal agent. Studies have shown that it compromises the cell membranes of bacteria and fungi cells, causing them to burst open and ultimately cause the death of the microbe.
Terpinen-4-ol also helps the body to fight infection by stimulating the activity of white blood cells, an important feature of the immune system. This activity also helps to reduce inflammation, calming red, hot or irritated skin.
Tea tree is a natural insect repellent too, another reason we added it to our products, all designed to be used on the go. Tea tree is one of the five key ingredients used in all Balmy Fox skincare formulas, including our best tea tree hand cream, an anti-bac formula, sitting alongside our best tea tree foot cream, and anti-bac chafe cream.
The reason, and passion, behind Balmy Fox
As outdoor enthusiasts ourselves, we’ve suffered our fair share of skin complaints. Dry skin that’s been made worse by being battered by the elements, sore skin, running blisters, surfers’ rash, irritations, itching. You name it, we know about it.
But they don’t stop us loving the outdoor lifestyle. In fact, we’d be outside in all weathers all day long all year round if we could. However, there comes a time where enough is enough, and something has to change. We didn’t want that to be our active lifestyles, so we created Balmy Fox.
Our balms, creams, lip salves and muscle rubs have all been tested on us for their effectiveness. We wouldn’t put a product on our virtual shelves if it didn’t work. Also, nothing gets past us if it isn’t natural, kind to the skin and the environment and ethically or sustainably sourced.
So, choose the anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and anti-inflammatory properties of tea tree, along with our other naturally soothing ingredients including arnica, beeswax and hemp oil, and choose Balmy Fox. Your outdoor lifestyle depends on it!
