Runners, surfers, climbers, riders, hikers, cyclists and campers alike have all benefitted from our range of products. We only use natural ingredients as we believe in the power of what nature has provided us with, rather than using harsh, artificial chemical ingredients.
So here’s a little bit more on our six hero ingredients…
Tea tree oil is extracted from the leaves of the Melaleuca alternifolia tree which is native to Australia. It contains a compound called terpinen-4-ol which has natural antibacterial and antifungal properties[HdG1] . This makes it an ideal ingredient in skincare products designed to help treat inflamed, irritate or infected skin complaints that are common in those pursuing outdoor sports and activities. It also helps to stimulate the activity of the immune system, helping our body to fight any microbial invaders. Plus, tea tree is a natural insect repellent, so it’s little wonder we knew we had to include it!
Arnica Montana derives from a yellow flower that’s part of the sunflower family and grows right here in the UK and across Northern Europe. It’s been used for years as an ingredient in skin preparations that are used to encourage bruising to ‘come out’ and heal by stimulating the activity of the white blood cells to repair the skin. But that’s not the only benefit to this, one of our favourite ingredients. Arnica is also naturally anti-inflammatory and can therefore help to reduce swelling and inflammation in swollen skin as a result of twists, falls and fractures.
Kahai oil is extracted from the nut of the Cacay tree that grows in the Columbian basin. The Columbian people have recognised its ability to nourish, hydrate and rejuvenate dehydrated, parched skin for generations. And we’re so excited that we’ve discovered it, as it’s a skin hydrating gem! Rich in retinol, vitamin E and omega fatty acids, Kahai oil penetrates deep into the skin to help the skin lock in moisture without making it greasy. We source our Kahai oil from smallholdings owned by farmers who previously were forced to grow and harvest the coca plant, used to produce cocaine. We’re proud that we’re supporting and empowering farmers to grow the Cacay tree, which produces sustainable harvests that will prove fruitful for generations.
Beeswax is a beautiful ingredient that moisturises dry skin and helps to add a waterproof barrier that prevents moisture from leaving the skin. Helpful if your dry skin is made worse by being out in the environment. It’s also effective at healing bruised, inflamed or sun or wind burned skin. Naturally produced by honey bees, the majority of the beeswax in our products comes from our own bee hives that we keep on our farm.
Derived from the same plant as cannabis, the Cannabis sativa plant, hemp oil is extracted by cold pressing the seeds of the plant. Unlike its cousin, hemp doesn’t have any of the mind-altering, psychoactive properties that cannabis does. Our skin requires omega 6 and 9 fatty acids called linoleic acid and oleic acid respectively to remain healthy. They’re known as essential fatty acids because it’s essential that we get them from our diet as the body cannot make them alone. The skin also benefits from these fatty acids when applied directly to the skin. The hemp oil in our products moisturises and nourishes the skin leaving it softer and smoother.
Sweet almond oil is high in vitamin E, an antioxidant vitamin which encourages the skin to retain moisture. It’s therefore excellent for dehydrated skin! It’s also a rich source of monounsaturated fatty acids, which also help to keep the skin soft and supple. We’ve added sweet almond oil to make our balms easy to apply and make light work of chapped and irritated skin on the go.
